What does Formative assessment look like
- Formative assessment is used to map/monitor learning progress during a unit of work
- Formative assessment provides ongoing feedback to teachers and students.
- The assessment provides information on progress, and identifies and addresses areas that require further development examples include learning journals, portfolios and digital portfolios
- The student's performances on these tasks inform the teacher as to where the teaching needs to go next in order to assist the student's learning.
- It encompasses classroom interactions, questioning, structured classroom activities, and feedback aimed at helping students to close learning gaps.
- Students are also actively involved in the assessment process through self- and peer-assessment.
- Information from external sources may also be used formatively to identify learning needs and adjust teaching strategies.
